R50 million stolen from state coffers

Seems state officials can’t keep their hands off the cookie jar. 21 officials from Indlela an institution that has been in existence in different guises for around 60 years are being investigated for stealing 50 million Rands from the department’s budget.

The allegations include that the staff:
–    Ran a private golf club on the agency’s Oliphantsfontein property;
–    Ran a private catering business;
–    Stole government tools and equipment; and
–    Milked the agency of 53% of its more than R100m budget over two years.

And we thought the Powerball winner had it good.
